What to expect from a wallpaper Installer

A real  wallpaper installer is not just a person who can hang wallpaper. He or she is a professional trades person dedicated to excellence. The owner of a service based company, the wallpaper installer is a business person with a responsibly to both the client and to their own reputation.  Below is a list of reasonable expectations to which every wallpaper installer should be held accountable.

Before the first meeting:

1. Does the installer return phone calls promptly?
2 Is he courteous and personable on the phone?
3. Does he give you an exact time for an appointment?
4. Is he willing to work around your time restraints?
5. Where did you find him and can you confirm his references?

The first meeting:

1. Does the Paperhanger show up on time or call if he is going to be late?
2. When he does get to the door is he presentable?
3. Does his vehicle look clean and organized?
4. Is he prepared when he gets there?
5. Is the contractor willing to give you an estimate in writing?
6. Does the estimate look professional?
7. is the business a legitimate corporation (Inc. or LLC)?
8. Is all the information on the estimate in clear, concise language?
9. Does the hanger seem to know what he is talking about?
10. Do you get a sense of confidence in his abilities?
11. Are you comfortable with this person in your home?
12. Does this Installer have proof of insurance and/or workman’s comp?
13. Is he available immediately, if so why?

Job day:

1. Does the installer show up on time?
2. Does he seem to have all the tools and material he needs to do the job?
3. Is he or she organized and confident getting started?
4. Watch for prep, walls should always be primed with a wallpaper specific primer before the install.
5. Does he sand or lightly scrape the walls?
6. Look at the tools and equipment; are they in good condition?
7. Does the hanger stay focused on the job?
8.The hanger should never stray from his work area and his pasting area? No wondering around.
9. Is the conversation polite, respectful and friendly?
10. Does the work area remain clean throughout the project?
11. If there are any changes that will affect the price of the job, they should be agreed upon before they become relevant.

Finishing the job:

1. Is the job finished in a timely manner?
2. Is the work area cleaned up and wiped down?
3. Be sure to look carefully around the room before the installer is gone.
4. The hanger should take all his trash with him.
5. The price at the end of the job should match the original estimate.
6. Did the installer briefly explain what you should expect and how to properly care for your wallpaper?
7. If anything does go wrong, (it happens from time to time) is the installers attitude professional and willing to make it right.

We, as installers and business people should never lose sight of the fact that what we provide and sell is SERVICE! From the first phone call to the last “see you soon”, we want every client to feel they have been treated fairly and honestly.
