Residential Wallpaper

Pre-pasted wallpapers

These wallpapers come with a water activated paste on the back of the wallpaper. They usually come in 20.5 inch widths and rolls that are 33 feet long. Depending on the pattern, you will usually get three full length panels out of a double roll.  Also, they are generally sold as a double roll, but priced as a single roll. The installation requires you to cut the pieces  in order matching each piece to the one before it  and then wetting the back of the paper to activate the wallpaper paste. Once the wallpaper sheet is wet, let it sit for around five minutes before installing. Be careful , the saturated sheet may be very delicate.

Unpasted Wallpapers

These Types of wallpaper require the installer to paste the back of the sheet and let it sit for a few minutes to relax (expand and tack up a little bit).  Read the label carefully so that you get the right manufacturers suggested paste for the particular wallpaper you are using.  These types of material vary in width and length of roll, but in general you will only get 3 panel from a roll if the wall height is under 8 feet.

Non-Woven wallpapers

This type of wallpaper is relatively new to the industry.  Whereas the above types of wallpaper tend to expand and get delicate when they are wet, these are on more stout stock and retain their dimensions wet of dry. For this reason, a lot of these wallpapers are considered “paste The Wall” products.  They can be installed by rolling the paste onto the wall then placing and smoothing it onto the wall.

Peel and stick wallpapers

These types of materials are deceiving.  They sound as if they would be easier to deal with than the other types, but the contrary is true. With the other types of materials, you can slide the sheet around on the wall to get the pattern to match as close as possible before you set the sheet permanently. Peel and stick papers require that you get it perfectly level and flat the first second it touches the wall. In addition, if by chance the paper folds onto itself it is exceedingly difficult to get un-stuck without damaging the material.   It is wise to read the primer and texture requirements before attempting this installation.

Wallpaper Murals

These types of wallpaper are becoming more and more popular and versatile as print technology expands. A good graphic design and print company can make just about anything into a mural. Be sure when you order these that you get it several inches longer and wider than the wall itself to allow it to be cut in tight all the way around.  innovative Murals come in a great variety of types and designs to fit just about any taste
